Cable Telephone Is Not Ready For Your PBX!!!
Cable Telephone Is Not Ready For Your PBX. Fix that problem by getting the BandTel Advantage.
Almost every cable TV company today is offering POTS (plain old telephone service) to residential users.
But now, they are now trying to market that SAME residential POTS solution to business users with PBXs. BE WARNED!!!
Cable POTS products were never designed to support the trunk-side of your PBX or key system.
What the Cable Companies are offering is a hosted Centrex service, which is not designed to multiplex phone calls to you PBX. As such, MSO cable companies are sticking a round peg into a square hole, and you, the business telecom user, are left to suffer the consequences.
Specific problems with POTs Cable Telephony connected to your PBX are many. 95% of all cable MSOs offer a virtual residential 2-wire loop circuit, but then tout it to you as a business class telecom product. It is not. It is not a trunk circuit, but rather something you would connect to a regular plain old analog telephone. As such is not a product that a real phone company would sell you to use on your PBX.
The Cable Business Telephone Experiment. BandTel Advantages.
So make note… if you buy cable telephone as a business solution for your PBX you are participating in an ad-hoc experimental trial that thus far is has not gone so well.
Some of the reasons Cable companies business telecom solution are failing are…
- It Can’t Hunt - There is no concept of a trunk, and so no concept of a hunt group. As a result your incoming calls cannot hunt normally as inbound circuits fill up on your PBX. The cable company’s solution is to put these lines in “forward on busy”!!!
- Call Progress Corruption - With “forward on busy” treatment used on a circuit to create an ad-hoc hunt group telecom “call progress signals” can get corrupted. The end results can be “fast busy tones” and “ring –no-answer failures with your PBX auto attendant.
- No DID Service - There is no ability to have multiple DIDs assigned to your PBX or key system. You get one number.
- No DID Info - There is no inbound DID information passed to your PBX that would allow your PBX to forward the number to a designated station.
- No Circuit Density - The cable companies modems offer very low line density; i.e. generally 2 lines. To get more you need to rack and stack cable modems, and then split the cable with line splitters to each modem to achieve more circuits. This creates more added stranded modem MRCs costs, more equipment and power draw in your telco room, and more boxes to manage and fail. Hardly an elegant solution.
And on it goes… In summary Cable companies in general know little or nothing about telephony, and are now letting the business telecom user community suffer the consequences of that lack of understanding.
So Why Pick BandTel Over your Cable Company for Business Telephone Services?

BandTel uses an alternative technology called SIP Trunking. This is a true VoIP service that, to your PBX system, looks exactly like the business trunk-side circuit you’d receive from a standard Telephone Company.
Further, BandTel’s SIP-Trunking product is not plagued with the pitfalls and problems associated with the analog business cable telephony products run over HFC (hi-frequency-carrier).
But that’s just the start. BandTel’s SIP-Trunking products allow you to go beyond standard telephony, and realize savings and added feature/functionality that is simply impossible to achieve from standard telephone or cable company offerings.
The BandTel Advantage
BandTel’s NPlus™ architecture effectively frees you from needing to be hardwired to a carrier's switch. Instead, BandTel's architecture allows your PBX to communicate seamlessly with all BandTel (N) switches in our network on a call by call basis.
This dynamic NPlus™ connection between your PBX and BandTel’s VoIP network is done through the combined use of BandTel’s DNS server pairs, and the advanced call routing and call distribution handled by BandTel's Session Border Controllers (SBCs).

Summary of BandTel Advantages

Here’s a quick Summary of some of the other benefits of using BandTel in place of your MSO for Telephone services…
- BandTel Offers Pure SIP Trunking - SIP Trunking offers literally all the benefits of an ISDN T1 Trunk, but with none of the high price or geographical limitations.
- BandTel’s SIP Product are Designed for PBXs - Irregardless of whether you have an analog, digital PCM, or IP PBX, BandTel’s product are designed to work seamlessly with all of them.
- BandTel Offers QoS on Your Bandwidth - Using your current Cable IP provider BandTel can offer you a full Quality of Services solution (QOS) on your current IP pipe with our VectorX™ solution. Your Cable Company cannot offer you this! A QoS solution is mandatory for VoIP, else your telephone voice quality will be sub-par and in many cases unusable.
VectorX- is a plug and play QoS solution from BandTel that allows you to merge your voice and data communications over a single IP drop. VectorX is designed to stay outside your corporate firewall, and in so doing behave in a totally passive manner to the rest of your IT infrastructure.
- Global Number Portability - With VoIP and SIP you are freed from what is called the “local PSTN rate center". That translates to BandTel being able to provision for you DID telephone numbers from almost any location in the country. International DIDs are even available. For business users this can offer significant savings and conveniences that simply are impossible to implement with cable or standard telephone companies.
- Tax Cost Savings - BandTel is not a registered CLEC, and so is not burdened with many of the taxation charges that your local telephone or CLEC cable company is. Significantly lower tax charges to you are one of the end results of this arrangement. BandTel has avoided entering into CLEC construct as it’s a legacy model that hinders the offering of modern telephony services to our customers.
- MRC Cost Savings - BandTel's fixed trunking costs are about half that of the fixed service costs from your MSO cable operator or telephone company.
- NRC Cost Savings - Your cable operator for the most part simply ties you back to your local incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) through an equal access arrangement. As such your local cable company is essence a middleman reseller for the ILEC. So do you save anything… maybe a little? But you could do much better.
And if your business does a significant amount of in-state calling your usage costs with cable telephone can be very high. BandTel will be a fraction of the cost for intra-state calls when compared to your local CLEC cable company, as we are not a CLEC, and so are not required to pay the in-state call subsidies.
- International Calling - Again, your local cable company for the most part is simply backhauling your traffic to the local incumbent telephone company. That will result in CableCo international rates being expensive and un-competitive at best.
But with BandTel international rates will be a fraction of the cost of cable telephone. We contract outside the local jurisdiction to get best of breed international carriers, and then pass those savings on to you.

Do the math and you’ll find BandTel to be more then half the cost of your local CableCo’s business telephone offering.
